5 Easy Steps to Remove Grout from Tiles

It may not be the easiest way to go about it, but a DIY approach to grout removal can still work.
The steps in this section will teach you:

  • How to clean kitchen tile grout
  • How to clean bathroom tile grout

You can try the steps below before you call any commercial cleaning services:

  1. Brush the Grout Off With Warm Water
  2. You will need a stiff-bristled brush for this step. Warm water can be enough to get rid of tile grout with friction from the brush.
If this fails, you can move on to step two.

  3. Apply Warm Water and Vinegar Together
  4. The combination of warm water and vinegar can also be enough to take out a decent amount of mold tile grout.
Just as in step one, you will still need a brush with tough bristles. It’s alright to use the same brush from step one.

  5. Consider Baking Soda with Vinegar
  6. Baking soda and vinegar can form a mixture that loosens the grout’s grip on surfaces. After several minutes, grout can disappear when this mixture is used.

  7. Hydrogen Peroxide
  8. Hydrogen peroxide is tough stuff. Consider this substance when the previous three steps fail.
But, take note that before applying hydrogen peroxide, it is important to rinse the other substances off the tile first.

  9. When in Doubt, Use Bleach
  10. Any kind of bleach will do. Before applying the bleach, you need to rinse the tiles firsthand. Doing this can prevent discoloration.
